About the role
As a Steward / Kitchenhand, you will play an important role in supporting the smooth and efficient operation of our kitchen.
Working closely with the chefs and wider Food & Beverage team, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and organisation throughout the kitchen, while providing essential support during busy service periods.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being active, works well as part of a team and takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment.
You will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience within a professional hotel kitchen and develop your skills across a range of hospitality operations.
Core Responsibilities
As a Steward / Kitchenhand, you will support the kitchen team by ensuring the kitchen, equipment and work areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and safety.
- Wash, clean and sanitise crockery, cutlery, glassware, pots, pans, utensils and kitchen equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen areas, dishwashing areas, floors, benches and storage areas.
- Assist chefs and kitchen team members with general kitchen duties as required.
- Assist with basic food preparation and kitchen set-up where required.
- Ensure all equipment, utensils and work areas are cleaned and stored appropriately.
- Assist with the receiving, movement and storage of food and kitchen supplies.
- Maintain appropriate stock rotation and storage practices.
- Remove rubbish and waste in accordance with hotel procedures.
- Ensure waste and recycling areas are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition.
- Assist with cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and facilities.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, health and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe and hazard-free working environment.
- Work efficiently during busy service periods and assist the kitchen team to meet operational requirements.
- Communicate effectively with chefs, supervisors and the wider Food & Beverage team.
- Support the smooth delivery of restaurant, banquet, conference and event operations.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful and collaborative kitchen culture.
About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience as a Kitchenhand, Steward, Cleaner or in a similar hospitality role is desirable but not essential.
- A strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- The ability to follow instructions, procedures and food safety requirements.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- The ability to work independently when required.
- A willingness to assist other members of the kitchen and Food & Beverage team.
- The ability to remain calm and productive during busy service periods.
- A commitment to workplace health, safety and hygiene standards.
