About the Role
As Hotel Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the financial performance of the hotel, working closely with operational leaders to ensure accurate reporting, strong financial controls, and compliance with company and statutory requirements.
This role is hands on and varied, combining day to day accounting tasks with broader financial analysis and stakeholder support. You’ll be responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and providing timely insights that help drive informed business decisions.
Operating in a fast-paced hotel environment, you will be a trusted finance partner to department heads, ensuring financial processes align with operational needs while maintaining accuracy, integrity, and accountability. Your work will directly support the smooth running of the hotel and contribute to delivering exceptional guest experiences.
Core Role Functions and Responsibilities
Maintain precise and organised financial records, to record and categorise financial transactions, including income, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
- Manage day-to-day hotel accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, month-end close, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to assist operational and senior leadership decision-making
- Monitor and maintain strong internal controls, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant statutory requirements
- Review revenue and cost reports to identify variances, trends, and opportunities for improvement
- Oversee audit processes and liaise with internal and external auditors as required
- Support department heads with financial guidance, reporting, and interpretation of results
- Ensure accurate processing of payroll-related journals and employee cost allocations
- Assist with cash flow management, inventory controls, and capital expenditure tracking
- Work collaboratively with the broader finance team to continuously improve systems, processes, and efficiencies
- Assist the Area Financial Controller to ensure Cost Control and Purchasing Departments operate within set budgets and as per legislation
- Liaise with third party stakeholders where required
About you
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Previous experience in hotel or hospitality accounting (highly regarded)
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end processes
- Confident working in a fast-paced, operational environment with competing priorities
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy, with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Proactive, organised, and able to work autonomously while being a strong team contributor
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems (hotel systems highly desirable)
- A positive, professional attitude with a commitment to confidentiality and integrity
