Stamford Plaza Melbourne are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Chief Engineer to join our Engineering Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on leader who is passionate about maintenance operations, team development, and delivering exceptional service within a fast-paced environment.

 

Stamford Plaza Melbourne is a five-star hotel located at the “Paris end” of Little Collins Street in the hear of the shopping and theatre district.

 

  • Permanent full-time position.
  • Monday to Friday with the occasional weekend required.
  • 38 hours per week.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you will play a key role in overseeing the day to day operations of the Engineering team.

 

You will assist in managing maintenance activities, coordinating workflow, supporting team members, and ensuring the property’s facilities, equipment, and assets are maintained to a high standard.

 

This is a critical leadership role suited to someone who thrives on problem-solving, has strong technical knowledge, and enjoys building a positive, high-performing team culture.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Engineer in supervising the Engineering team and daily maintenance operations
  • Lead, mentor, and train team members to ensure safe and efficient work practices
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs
  • Support the coordination of contractors and external service providers
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with safety procedures, regulations, and company standards
  • Respond to maintenance issues promptly to minimise operational impact
  • Participate in planning and implementing facility improvement projects
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and asset records
  • Contribute to budgeting, resource planning, and continuous improvement initiatives

 

About You

We are looking for someone who brings both technical knowledge and strong leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Maintenance Manager or at least 5 years as a Building/Facilities Manager
  • Trade qualification(s) are essential. 
  • Tertiary qualification in either electrical or mechanical engineering is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in a large-scale hotel Engineering department is desirable.
  • Previous experience in managing large scale capex projects.
  • Strong management and teamwork capabilities.
  • Previous experience in with a PMS – Property Management System, and Opera is desirable.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound understanding of safety standards and compliance requirements
