About the role  

We seek skilled and talented Commis Chef/s to join our kitchen team on a casual basis, reporting to the Executive Chef.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Prepare meal ingredients as well as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables and fruits
  • Prepare basic salads and sauces as directed by the Executive Chef
  • Receive deliveries and verifying that all ordered items have been delivered and are of good quality
  • Take inventory of restaurant supplies and notify Executive Chef of low or depleted supplies
  • Discard all expired and spoiled food items stored in the stock rooms, refrigerators, and freezers
  • Performing cleaning duties and ensuring that workstations are properly sanitized
  • Plating and presenting meal items as per the Executive Chefs instructions
  • Help with deliveries and restocking
  • Awareness of the need to manage all relevant costs, including labour, food and operations expenses
  • Be reliable and self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Uphold strict health, hygiene and safety standards
  • Plan and manage food quantities and plating requirements for the food operation

About you

  • Qualifications in Commercial Cookery/Culinary Arts from a registered training provider
  • Proven hospitality Kitchen experience
  • Be able to lift, push and pull large objects up to 50lbs (23 kg), bend and kneel
  • Good reading, writing and basic maths
  • Have a natural positive demeanour, with excellent communication
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with a multicultural diverse team
  • Flexible to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays
  • Comprehensive knowledge of kitchen hygiene practices and WH&S standards
  • Demonstrated experience working in a 4- or 5-star hotel (desirable)
